Commissioning a portrait is straightforward

First decide if you would like a portrait of a person, or pet or both together.

Then look at the examples on the Animal or People pages to choose your style. Don't worry if you are undecided I can help.

Just contact me, sending a photo or a few photos.

We can then agree the size, style and set a price and timescale.

Photograph compared to painting

The tilted head in this photo really shows character. Setting the head on a pure black background intensifies the image.

Photo tips

I work from the photos you send me, so please pick a pose that you are happy with, one that captures the character of the person or pet.
As you can see for the portraits on my website I rarely paint straight on "passport" style portraits. As I feel angles add increased interest to the finished look of a painting.

Taking the photo

Take in natural light, outside if possible, else by a window.
Don't choose a very sunny day, and have the sun behind you, not behind the subject.
Have the pet or person as the main focus of the photo, not part of a bigger picture with lots of background.
Make sure the facial features prominent and clearly defined
