This pet portrait is done with a square bush or as I like to call it "blocky" technique. A modern style, a real statement art piece.

Sometimes its about family, sometimes its about an endearing friendship but always its about love.
To me the special thing about a portrait is the way the face talks to you, invites you to explore possible ways to portray it.
Sometimes its in a smooth, blended realistic way.
Other times its more artistic. Where maybe parts of the portrait are left blank, there is no background. Or when the background and person merge into one.
Colour is interesting too. I often like to use a limited palette, however a shot of the bold can be what other paintings need.
A classic style, but with modern elements. The background colour is picked out in parts of the shadows in the face.
Here the background colour is picked up from the colour in the eyes. Some parts of the portrait and the background merge.
